The project Trustworthy news and Related content for a Unified writing Environment (TRUE), promoted by Público, MOG Technologies and the University of Aveiro, was concluded in July 2023 after two years of hard work.
The initiative focused on developing a platform aimed at the development of school newspapers with the ability to fact-check published news and provide context for new content. The result was a tool to promote critical thinking among young people and combat fake news.
To validate the platform, the team responsible for the project conducted two rounds of testing. Students and experts tested the platform in the uX laboratory of the Social iVX team and later in the field.
We had the participation of two educational institutions: Henriques Nogueira Secondary School in Torres Vedras and Henrique Medina Secondary School with 3rd Cycle, located in Esposende. Both schools developed their digital newspapers, with content created by students.
The project results were presented in several scientific publications. Some examples include Lecture Notes in Educational Technology, 11th World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies, and CISTI’23.
The success of this project was only possible due to the participation of all the researchers involved and the partners. The students of the University of Aveiro dedicated themselves intensively to the initiative under the supervision of Professor Telmo Silva. Thanks to everyone involved!
