After his participation in several European projects with the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro, he joined the Department of Communication and the Arts and concluded his Ph.D. in Sciences and Communication Technologies. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses in Communication Science and Technologies offered by his department.
As a member of the research unit DigiMedia, and coordinator of the Social iTV team, he aims to contribute to the innovation of the TV ecosystem, by designing, prototyping and evaluating advanced iTV applications with a focus on user experience, being author/co-author of over 100 scientific publications in this domain.
He has been PI and Scientific Coordinator of a wide range of international and national research projects on the iTV area in partnership with several entities including the Foundation for Science and Technology, the European Union Commission, Portugal Telecom, Altran, MOG Technologies and Altice Labs.
As a supervisor, he has successfully captivated his MSc and PhD students to the aforementioned areas, deepening this kind of research for specific target audiences (from teenagers to seniors, including people with special needs).
He is a member of several international networks of researchers, such as RedAUTI / CYTED and the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, acting also as a reviewer in several journals and international scientific events, where he is involved as a member of its Scientific Committees.
