ABSTRACT

The thesis that supports the Meo AD+ project is part of the Doctoral Program in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms at the University of Aveiro.

This project aimed to design an interaction model for an IPTV service adapted to visually impaired users (VIU). A Universal Design approach applied to Interactive Television supported the study and implementation of new strategies for the inclusion of visually impaired persons in the iTV field, comprising the access to adjusted TV contents and the use of accessible interfaces.

The project was structured in three phases. In the first phase the difficulties and needs of VIU as consumers of television content and iTV services were identified. In the second phase an interactive IPTV system including adapted features to VIU was conceptualised and prototyped. Finally, in the third phase the test and evaluation of the system was carried out by a group of VIU.
