ABSTRACT
The offer of interactive television services is becoming more and more frequent in regular households allowing a more customizable way of watching TV. However, in a multi-viewer environment a truly personalized TV experience could not merely rely on the identification of the STB that users have at their homes. The main objective of this Thesis was to specify, implement, and evaluate an automatic and non-intrusive iTV user identification system to promote the development of personalized advanced television services with a special focus on elderly life support features. As result, a decision matrix was developed to help to decide the most suited user identification system to a specific user profile. A simulation of this matrix can be accessed in http://vis.web.ua.pt/source/vis_8.html.
